The Ukrainian Kobzar tradition is one of the most studied bardic traditions in Europe. Ethnographers have made numerous expeditions, archival investigations, notating repertoire, describing instruments, repertoire and studying the lifestyle of these blind balladeers who were thought to have disappeared by the end of the 19th century.
In order to help preserve the authentic performance style of the kobzars, a study into the music and performance style was commissioned by the Ukrainian poetess Lesia Ukrainka and her husband ethnographer Klyment Kvitka. Audio recordings using the recently invented Edison phonographs were made in the early years of the 20th century. Recently, specialists at the US Congress Library have undertaken restorative work on these recordings,
The kobzar tradition however, continues into the 21st century and continues to develop. This CD is evidence to continued attempts to revive the traditional repertoire, performance style and to continue to develop new repertoire within traditional parameters.
The well-known singer and songwriter Eduard Drach performs several traditional songs and dances and some of his own compositions in the traditional style re-created during 25 years of studying kobzar tradition from the renowned contemporary kobzars and ethnographers M. Budnyk, M. Khai, M Tovkailo and V. Kushpet.

Українська кобзарська традиція є однією з найбільш вивчених співоцьких традицій Європи. Етнографами проведено безліч експедицій, нотних записів, архівних досліджень, описів репертуару й інструментів, вивчення способу життя цих переважно незрячих співців, які вважалися зниклими вже в кінці XIX ст.
Для збереження автентичного стилю кобзарського виконання, на початку ХХ ст. були проведені аудіозаписи на щойно винайденому фонографі Едісона. Вони проводилися на замовлення Лесі Українки та її чоловіка, етнографа Климента Квітки. Останнім часом фахівці Бібліотеки Конгресу США ці записи реставрували.
Кобзарська традиція, між тим, як і раніше, продовжує розвиватися. Цей диск, власне, й демонструє спробу відродження кобзарства не лише через відтворення традиційного репертуару, але й через написання нових творів у рамках традиційних параметрів.
Відомий співак і композитор Едуард Драч виконує кілька традиційних пісень і танців, а також свої власні композиції, написані протягом 25 років навчання кобзарській традиції у відомих сучасних кобзарів та етнографів — М. Будника, М. Хая, М. Товкайла, В. Кушпета.
